On your right is a small seating area called the Fane of Pastoral Poetry. Like General Wolfe’s Obelisk it was previously in a different area of the gardens completely and was used as an ice house. The statue next to it is of Thalia the Muse of Pastoral Poetry and is a reproduction as the original was sold when the family started struggling financially. There are nine more muses which the National Trust reinstated in early 2020 around the Doric Arch, and can be enjoyed from within the garden by purchasing a day ticket.
