Who were Oddfellows?
When the Oddfellows started they were a union for people with unusual jobs. Before the NHS and sick pay it was a way for workers and families to get insurance that would support them if they fell on hard times.
The carved stone around the entrance shows that Oddfellows thought uniting different groups of people was important.
If you look over the road you will see another oddity, houses with very small doors. This is probably due to changes in the street level since they were built and not due to the height of the people living in them!
