The fire tore through this part of the town, with many buildings being destroyed.  However, we know that some buildings did escape the flames, including what was then the Bull Inn, directly across the street, which was stone-built. The Woolpack, (still a pub today) and Tudor House (#54) also remained undamaged.  Image 1 shows how Well Street might have looked immediately before the fire.

Look at the frontage of #10, and note the date stone, (TG 1726) which is post-fire.  The symmetrical frontage and the design of the window and door are in line with that date.  However, inside, there are traces of a timber-framed building and fire-damaged timbers, so we can tell that the house was here before 1725, was damaged in the fire, and was repaired and rebuilt with a fancy modern frontage after the fire (Image 2).
