The 1st Marquess of Buckingham, wanted a new bridge so that he could invite his friend, future King George IV to his home, without worrying that the old stone bridge near the Woolpack Inn might collapse with the Royal Prince on it!

The bridge was built over the river Great Ouse in 1805, and you can see the Marquess coat of arms on one side of the bridge and a swan on the other.
